ENTIRE FILIPINO FAMILY KILLED IN SHATTERED PLANE !

A Filipina mother, her son, daughter, and her Indonesian husband were among the civilian passengers on board a Malaysian airplane blown up into pieces in midair by a Russian rocket missile while flying over eastern Ukraine Thursday.

The three Filipinos were identified by authorities as Irene Gunawan, 54, her son Darryl Dwight Gunawan 20, and daughter Sherryl Shania Gunawan,15 years old, a high school student. The husband, Mr. Bujanto Gunawan, of Indonesian blood, was also on board the blown up plane with the entire family.

The family was on a summer vacation, and was on their way to a family reunion in the Philippines when the horrific tragedy happened.

They were on board the Malaysian Airline Boeing 777 (Flight M17) en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia then to Manila, Philippines. The husband, Mr. Gunawan, worked for Malaysian Airlines in Amsterdam.

Reports said, Irene Gunawan managed to send a text (SMS) message to her relatives in the Philippines before boarding their flight in Amsterdam. "Bye, Love you!" says the message, which was very unusual as Irene very rarely said "I love you" in her messages, they said.

The family is described by a family friend, as "sweet, harmonious family". Irene Gunawan (formerly Irene Pabillon) originally hailed from Quezon province in the Philippines. She was one of 6 children.

The ill-fated plane was carrying 298 people including 15 crew members, bursted into bits after being hit by a missile, the horrific scene sending shock wave and horror to the international community around the world. All people on board were instantly killed, with their bodies falling from the sky, witnesses said.

World leaders expressed anger and grief over the tragic, appalling incident. US President Barack Obama reportedly chastised Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone, shortly after the incident.

The plane was traveling from Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when shot down near the Russia-Ukraine border.

Initial reports say it was the pro-Russian militia who shot down the plane Thursday (17 July 2104), with a surface-to-air missile. The Russian separatists have mistaken the passenger plane as a Ukrainian enemy plane. Russia and Ukraine are at war, following Russia's invasion of Crimea, a region inside Ukraine, last March. Russia and Ukraine have a long history of conflict.

Of the passengers aboard the shattered plane, 154 were Dutch, 27 were Australian, 23 others were from Malaysia, 11 were Indonesian, six were British, four were German, another four were from Belgium, three from the Philippines and one was Canadian.

This is the second major tragedy involving a Malaysian Airline plane just this year, with another Boeing 777 went missing into the Indian ocean only four months ago.
